Like Lewis Wetzel of West Virginia, Tom Quick of Pennsylvania was an Indian slayer. After his father was killed by Indians he vowed to take revenge for the rest of his life. It's said on his death bed he wanted to kill one more Indian to make it an even 100 notches on his 58-inch rifle barrel called "Long Tom".

Interesting when you consider the story of Quick and Blackhoof, which I copied from Draper Mss. 13CC236-237 and published in INDIAN BLOOD vol. I. Several in his family were captured and adopted, some of whom chose to stay with the tribes, and some went to Canada. Johnny Quick's name appears on the 1829 treaty and he was sent by Delaware Chief William Anderson to scout the Kansas reservation land before the Delaware's removal there. Joseph Quick must have been another brother who stayed 13 years among the Indians and later married Susan Munger, by whom he had twelve children. This may be the same Munger family as married into the family of Simon Girty. Some of the Mungers were captured at Ruddles Station in Kentucky in 1780.
