Seems to me that these guys were the big winners in The Beaver Wars. The Chippewa defeated the Iroquois heavily up in Michigan and drove them out of the Ontario lands that had been Huron before the wars.
Seems to me that the Chippewa don't get much attention, perhaps because they were so far north out in the pays d'en haut they didn't fight the Americans as much as the Ohio valley and lower Lakes peoples did. But they were perhaps the most powerful Indians ever north of the Valley of Mexico; whipping the Iroquois with one hand and the Sioux with the other was impressive.
