Here is an interesting article from an old issue of Muzzleblasts magazine detailing the history of the famous Cresap family of Maryland and their various contributions to the history of the Eastern frontier. Michael Cresap was a renowned frontiersman and played a important role in the conflict that would errupt along the Ohio River in the spring of 1774. This brief but bloody conflict was originally known as "Cresap's War", reflecting the long held belief that Cresap had been the man most responsible for sparking the war with the murder of the family of the Mingo Chief Logan. Thomas Jefferson even laid blame for the "Yellow Creek Massacre" at the feet of Cresap in his famous Notes on the State of Virginia. Today, it is generally accepted that the murder of Logan's family on April 30, 1774 was commited by a band of border ruffians lead by Daniel Greathouse, but Cresap's name was forever tarnished. ezines.firelands.net/muzzleblastsonline/vol1no3/articles/cresap.htm
