The following is excerpted from Howe's Historical Collections of Ohio, one of the earliest and best references for the early history of the state of Ohio. This section on the history of Pickaway County details the early history of the county when it was still the abode of the Shawnee Indians and discusses the location of their towns and the events which transpired here. This area served as the focus of the final days of Lord Dunmore's war of 1774. It was here that Dunmore established Camp Charlotte where he dictated the ceasefire with the defeated Shawnee after the Battle of Point Pleasant. It was also near here, as noted in the following text, that Chief Logan gave his famous speech. freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~henryhowesbook/pickaway.html
