Came across a couple of wonderful websites that give lots of good information on Indian Signal Trees. Also called Trail Trees, these are old trees that were intentionally bent or tied down while they were young saplings to mark Indian paths or pointed to important spots for hunting or camping, etc. Even today you can find these strange looking trees every once in a while. There is a really nice example of one in Cascade Valley Park in Akron. They are amazing living examples of our link to the past. home.att.net/~trailtrees/#faqswww.oldeforester.com/Sigtree.html
