In the mid-18th century, European colonists began pushing west across the great Appalachian Mountains into the vast unknown wilderness that was the Ohio Country. It was to become the battleground for two vastly different cultures on a collision course with history. On one side, the white settlers, eager to make a new home and future for themselves in the untamed wilderness. On the other, the native Indian tribes who would fight to the end to protect their ancestral homelands from these invaders. Between 1750 and 1815, a number of wars were fought for control of this land, many lives were lost, and much blood spilled on both sides. These wars and the people who lived, fought, and died here are each an important part of our nation's history. Yet, so little of this material is taught to us in school, and even less remembered later. Ohio has a long and fascinating history to anyone who takes the time to look.
I created this board to give a forum to anyone interested in dicussing the history of the Ohio Indian Wars, the people who fought in them, the white soldiers, the settlers, the Indians and their culture...just about anything within reason. There are other similar boards out there for important historical events in other states, but none for Ohio and its rich history of Indian-White conflicts. It is always important to not only remember what happend and why, but how these things shape the world we live in today, for the hills and backyards and rivers that we walk on and over everyday were once where great and terrible things happened, and they are worth remembering...
Please feel free to discuss anything you'd like on the history of early Ohio's Indian Wars, whether it be the life of Tecumseh and the Prophet, the Massacre of Gnaddenhutten, reenacting the War of 1812, clothing, weapons, etc etc...what have you. Also, feel free to contact me with any problems or questions you might have here. I am here to encourage discussion and maybe learn a thing or two.
Also, if anyone would like a new discussion topic started up, please let me know and I will be happy to create it.
