If anyone here has not yet had a chance to check out the all new and improved Fort Meigs in Perrysburg, OH I would definately encourage them to go. After nearly two years of renovations, it is finally re-open to the public this season. Fort Meigs is the only fully reconstructed fort in Ohio and offers a wonderful museum and fantastic grounds with a number of historical events from May through Oct. Fort Meigs was constructed by General William Henry Harrison on the Maumee River near modern-day Toledo, OH in 1813 to defend the Ohio frontier against British and Indian forces attacking from Canada. There were two large seiges during the spring and summer of 1813 in which the British and their Indian allies, led by the Shawnee warrior Tecumseh, attempted to reduce the fort. Though suffering significant casualties, the Americans were able to hold out and Ohio was saved from further depredations. The actions at Fort Meigs were the largest land engagements of the War of 1812 in Ohio. Check out their official website for more info and events calender. www.fortmeigs.org/

This past August was the first time my unit attended Fort Meigs for the '1759 Siege'. It was an enjoyable event, except that it was very hot on Saturday (at least 6 casualties due to heat during the battle in the 'valley of death'). We enjoyed hooking-up with other companies of the 42nd from different areas of the country. The site is absolutely perfect, and very reenactor-friendly. A good time was had by all, and we hated saying "good-bye" on Sunday.
Your Most Humble Servant,
